Mel Kiper’s ‘Grade A’ 2019 mock for Falcons includes Notre Dame CB in round 2

Falcons coach Dan Quinn has identified three key positions for the team to address in the 2019 NFL draft: defensive back, defensive tackle and defensive end.

In a new three-round “grade A” mock draft by Mel Kiper at ESPN, Atlanta addresses two of them with their first two picks. At No. 14 overall, he has the Falcons picking Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins. In round two, they take Notre Dame cornerback prospect Julian Love. Here’s what McShay had to say about how Love would fit in Atlanta.

“During the season, I thought Love had a chance to sneak into the first round, but his workout numbers were just OK. He has stellar ball skills and could compete with Isaiah Oliver for the spot opposite Desmond Trufant. McGovern would likely play guard if he went to Atlanta. I also considered pass-rusher Ben Banogu with that third-round pick.”

A native of Chicago, Love’s long arms (31.75 inches) and athleticism make him an intriguing cornerback prospect for the Falcons. In 38 college games, he posted five interceptions, 39 pass breakups and six tackles for a loss.

Let’s take a look at the tape.

Love vs. Michigan

Love vs. Vanderbilt

Love vs. NC State

There’s a decent chance Love won’t make it to the second round. If he’s still there at No. 45, he’d be a steal.
