Mel Kiper breaks down why Kyler Murray will be No. 1 in his mock draft

In his most recent mock draft published earlier this week, ESPN NFL expert Mel Kiper Jr. kept former Ohio State star Nick Bosa at the top of the draft order – but that was before Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray aced the weigh-in and measurement portion of the ongoing NFL combine.

Murray’s numbers were very close to matching current Seahawks star Russell Wilson, and even if some teams are still wary of Murray’s size, Saints coach Sean Payton says Murray’s game film is too good to ignore.

When asked about Murray’s draft stock on Friday, Kiper said that he’s likely going to move the former Oklahoma star up to the No. 1 slot in his next mock draft, and broke down why the Cardinals would draft a QB just one year after selecting Josh Rosen.

“I’m going to probably put him No. 1. I think the Arizona Cardinals have kind of a dilemma. Do they feel that Kyler Murray is a significant upgrade over Josh Rosen? Then you have to trade Josh Rosen, and do you have an interested party there in maybe the Washington Redskins or the Miami Dolphins. Somebody like that, you get that first-round pick from a team for Rosen.

I think Kyler Murray fits Kliff Kingsbury’s offense. Josh Rosen, in my opinion, does not. I think if you’re in a division with Goff, Wilson and now Garoppolo off the injury, they feel that Kyler Murray – now that he’s in the range you need to be, close to Russell Wilson height-wise – I think he’s in line maybe to be the No. 1 pick overall now.”
