Mel Giedroyc says she's 'nervous' as she's confirmed for BBC Strictly Christmas special

Mel Giedroyc is the latest celebrity to be confirmed for the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special.

The former Great British Bake Off presenter and Eurovision host has signed up for the festive special of the BBC One dancing show and she joined Rylan Clark on Strictly: It Takes Two to announce the news.

Mel will go against previously announced celebrities including Fred Sirieix and Jay Blades in a bid to take home the prize after dancing for judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and head judge Shirley Ballas.

Appearing on the BBC Two show alongside her dance partner Neil Jones, Mel admitted she was nervous about her upcoming stint on the show, as she revealed the pair had just come from training.

Mel has a self-confessed Strictly obsession and she can't wait to be a part of the show.

"I don’t think I’ve been this excited about Christmas since I got my first guinea-pig from Santa in 1978," she added in a statement.

It comes after First Dates star Fred Sirieix and The Repair Shop's Jay Blades were announced for the programme, with Fred partnered with Dianne Buswell whilst Jay will dance with Luba Mushtuk.

"I absolutely love Christmas so I’m delighted to be taking part in the Strictly Christmas special and to be partnered with the magnificent Dianne," Fred said in a statement.

"I hope my dance moves bring some Christmas joy to everybody watching at home and don’t make the judges say 'Bah, Humbug!'"

Fred explained how he just "couldn't turn down the opportunity" of appearing on the festive show.

Mel and Neil discussed their new venture on Strictly: It Takes Two (BBC)

"I got the phone call and I was as excited as I was scared," he added, "Because I was so scared I thought I have got to do it. There is no way I can turn this down. I have got to do it."

Repair Shop star Jay is also looking forward to the show - and he can't wait to learn another dance which isn't a dad dance.

"I’m super excited, times two! One, because I’m going to learn a new dance apart from the ‘Dad’ dance, and two because I’m going to be on Strictly! It’s a show that I’ve always admired, and I can’t wait to see how I perform!" he added.
