Mel C and partner Chris Dingwall are expected to exchange vows in a “secret wedding” this weekend, according to multiple reports.
The singer, 52, has not announced any engagement or plans to marry the Australian model, actor and screenwriter, who is believed to be in his late 40s, but the Daily Mail reported the couple are ready to say “I do”.
While there are no details available for their big day, the publication reported that all members of the Spice Girls are set to attend the wedding in a reunion that would mark 30 years since the release of their hit song Wannabe - except for one member.
Victoria Beckham is said to be unable to attend as she is currently in the US with her husband David Beckham for the FIFA World Cup finals, which takes place on Sunday 19 July.
The Daily Mail quoted a source as saying: “Everyone is quite confused that Sporty Spice is having her wedding on the eve of the FIFA world cup final.”
“There is a feeling she might move to Australia with Chris in due course. She already does The Voice Australia and her daughter, Scarlett, 17 will be off to university at the end of the year.”
It comes after Mel, whose real name is Melanie Chisholm, spent years insisting that marriage just wasn’t for her, particularly after her parents’ divorce when she was aged three.
In 2022, she told the Sunday Times: “I’ve never, never wanted to marry. Maybe marriage works for some people, but maybe to think it works for the majority is an old-fashioned notion.”
Mel has been in a series of relationships throughout her life but never married. She shares a 17-year-old daughter, Scarlet, with former partner Thomas Starr.
However, in another, more recent interview with the newspaper published in January, she said she was considering marriage for the first time with Dingwall.
"You know what? [Marriage is] something I didn't think would be part of my story. But I'm so happy with Chris,” she gushed.
“Maybe it is something that will be in my life. I just think, just do all the things. Do you know what I mean? Have all the experiences."
The couple went public in 2024 and Mel revealed in an appearance on the Life Uncut podcast with Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne that the pair met on celebrity dating app Raya.
Describing DIngwall in an interview with The Telegraph in May, Mel said: “He’s very laid-back. He’s loads of fun... We have very similar personalities and lifestyles.”
The Spice Girls celebrated 30 years since the release of Wannabe on Wednesday 15 July, with each member sharing posts on Instagram.
In a speech she gave at the Nordoff And Robbins Silver Clef Awards at the Royal Albert Hall, where Mel was honoured with the global impact award, she recalled seeing the song in shops and how it was “so exciting, because it was everything we dreamed of”.
"We knew exactly what we wanted to achieve but nobody imagined the scale [of what] we went on to do," she continued.
"We went out, we conquered the world. We were told that we couldn't, and we wouldn't. But we did."
Wannabe later became one of the most iconic songs of its era and sold more than eight million copies worldwide.
