If you weren’t already feeling excited for the new year, Melanie Chisholm, aka Mel C, aka Sporty Spice, has teased a Spice Girls reunion in 2026 to celebrate the girl group’s milestone anniversary.
This year marks 30 years since the Spice Girls released their debut single “Wannabe” — which went on to become one of the best-selling singles of all time — as well as their debut studio album Spice.

Mel C teases Spice Girls reunion
Ahead of her New Year’s Eve performance on the Sydney Harbour foreshore on Wednesday evening — where she wore a stunning custom Palm Angels tracksuit and bralette — Mel C told ABC presenter Zan Rowe that she would love to honour the group’s legacy in 2026.
“I feel really proud of everything that we did and the legacy that we created and we find young people all the time discovering the Spice Girls. It’s a wonderful thing,” she said.
“I’m so proud to be a Spice Girl and it would be lovely to celebrate that in some way.”

Mel C and fellow group member Victoria Beckham previously opted out of celebrating the 20th anniversary of “Wannabe” in 2016, with Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell instead forming a side project.
The trio launched a YouTube channel called Spice Girls GEM (using their initials, get it?) and teased a comeback tour. A new song from the group also leaked online; however, the project was cancelled after Geri announced her pregnancy.
The Spice Girls eventually reunited for a 13-date concert tour in the UK in 2019 without Victoria, but let’s all cross our fingers that the 30th anniversary celebrations involve all five members.
Mel C’s New Year’s Eve performance
Mel C became somewhat of an honorary Aussie in 2025 after she appeared as a coach on The Voice Australia, collaborated with Aussie DJ Anna Lunoe and performed at the Australian Grand Prix.
She ended the year performing a medley of her solo hits and Spice Girls songs at the ABC’s annual New Year’s Eve concert, which she described as an “honour”.
“I can’t think of anywhere better to be on this particular night,” she said. “Being British, we’re just so aware of how you guys celebrate. You are one of the first places to welcome in the New Year, so to be part of it is incredible.”
Mel C’s performance featured the songs “2 Become 1”, “Say You’ll Be There”, “Spice Up Your Life” and “Who Do You Think You Are” and honestly, what a way to start 2026.
