Mel C reveals she almost got kicked out of Spice Girls for telling Victoria Beckham to 'f*** off'

Melanie Chisholm has revealed she was almost booted out of the Spice Girls in 1996 before the group was launched.

In an interview with The Guardian's Laura Snapes, the singer – who went by the name Mel C during her time in the band – said there was an incident with Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) at the Brit Awards.

“I got a bit lairy and I told Victoria to f*** off,” she said. “I upset her, and I was told that if that behaviour ever happened again, then...” Chilsholm apparently then made a guillotine gesture.

In the wide-ranging conversation, Chisholm also discussed how she experienced depression while pursuing a solo career after the Spice Girls split, which she initially believed was linked to her fame.

“I was a Spice Girl,” she said. “For five minutes, I was one of the most famous people in the world – how do you deal with that? Everyone treats you differently... and then, unfortunately, some feelings of depression have come back over the years and I’ve realised, this is part of who I am.”

Chisholm’s interview follows the Spice Girls reunion tour that took place at stadiums around the UK, including Wembley Stadium in London. Under the name Melanie C, she has since released a new solo single, “High Heels”.
