Mel C hints at potential Spice Girls Glastonbury performance

Spice Girl fans will be keeping a close eye on next year’s Glastonbury line-up after Mel C hinted the super group could reform to play the festival in the future.

Merseyside born singer Melanie Chisholm was there at Worthy Farm for a performance on the Avalon stage yesterday evening, Saturday June 24. After her set she spoke to BBC Radio 6 Music where she was probed on whether her bandmates would accept an offer to play at the world famous festival.

Asked whether the pop band would take on the Pyramid stage legends slot in the future, the 49-year-old singer told the BBC: “All of the Spice Girls would like to play Glasto, that is the truth. Like I said to the audience [on Saturday night), doing a couple of Spice Girls songs, ‘a bit of a warm-up for next year?’

“They’re rehearsed, they know the words, they’re ready. So, if I can drag the other girls along… I say ‘drag’ the other girls along – all of the Spice Girls would like to play Glasto, that is the truth. It’s just getting it together, the timing being right.”

Mel C, nicknamed Sporty Spice, added: “And it’s quite daunting, some of the girls haven’t been up on stage for years. But I think it’s, we call it [playing Glastonbury] the bucket list, because as an artist it really is the ultimate.”

The girl band have reunited previously for a string of dates in 2019. However this was without former band member Victoria Beckham and was the first time they’d performed together since the 2012 Olympics closing ceremony.

Glastonbury 2023’s legend slot was filled by Yusuf/Cat Stevens. The popular slot on the Pyramid Stage has seen memorable performances by Dolly Parton and Kylie Minogue.

This year’s festival is set to be closed out by Sir Elton John. Other headliners across the weekend included Arctic Monkeys and Guns N Roses.
