Mel C compares performing with drag queens and her fellow Spice Girls live on stage

Bristol Pride has appeared to be an enormous success this year.

After nine years based at Millennium Square the increasingly popular event was moved to The Downs as it was running out of space.

And it's 10th anniversary appears to just be a sign of things to come, with early estimates showing more than double the number of people from last year enjoyed the parade march through the city and the party at the Downs.

From the colourful parade to the festival-like new home at the Bristol park, the event has proved to be a big hit once more.

And this can be partly attributed to the big stars they managed to recruit for the day.

While Bristol welcomed some of the nation's top drag queens on stage as well as the headline act Sophie Ellis-Bextor proving to be hugely popular, arguably the biggest crowd-pleaser was Sporty Spice, otherwise known as Mel C.

Donning a body-armour type top seemingly made out of Nike Air shoes, the Spice Girl was flanked by four drag queens, dressed up as her old singing buddies Ginger, Scary, Posh and Baby Spice.

She even had to 'chase off' her doppelganger from the stage, saying 'There's only one sporty spice around here'.

After entertaining the crowd with some Spice Girls' classics as well as her own material from her solo career, she told the crowd about a regular query she gets.

"People always ask me, 'Mel, what;s the difference between performing with the other Spice girls and performing with drag queens?," she said.

"To be honest, they're very similar.

"There's lots of big shoes, big hair... and lots of makeup."

She also described her and the Spice Girls performing at Ashton Gate only three weeks before, saying it was "f**king chucking it down."
