There are few moments more precious than watching an ex-celebrity take their first teetering steps back on the road to being someone who can just register in the tumbleweed wastelands of the August news schedules - and it's great to be able watch Mel B emerge from obscurity to do just that.
One year ago, the fame Ms B once enjoyed during her membership of mid-Mesozoic girl band "The Spice Girls" had long since evaporated, squandered on shockingly cheap infant-exploiting videos and a scandalous decision to marry below her celebricaste. Her days were spent being a Brit In LA For No Good Reason. There was talk of writing a sitcom. There was no sitcom.
Fast forward to today, and not only is she the proud bringer of an Eddie Murphy paternity suit, but it turns out that the discovery that she married in Vegas in June is of interest to many, or at least several.
The groom is longtime friend Stephen Belafonte, though unfortunately Mel pulled out of an appearance on Larry King Live within hours of the happy news emerging, a development you can be sure is unrelated to the wedding's potential to steal valuable airtime from the tale of enduring misery she has been hawking the hell out of at every opportunity in recent weeks.
Similarly, there's nothing worse than a "My Hell" magazine buy-up getting into a logjam with the "My Joy" one that will inevitably follow it, so media outlets are asked to give the Belafonte-Bs their scheduling space at this difficult / happy time.
