Melanie Brown was rushed to hospital after injuring her hand and breaking two ribs.

The Spice Girls singer, 43, received “emergency care” and was operated on for three hours at a London hospital to “repair the damage”.

Brown broke the news on Instagram, posting a picture of herself wearing a giant purple sling and telling fans she is in pain.

She posted: “Thank you to all the wonderful nurses Dr’s and my amazing surgeon for the care and expertise given to me here at the hospital I’ve been staying at, suffering 2 broken ribs a severed right hand needing emergency care,to having had to have over a 3 hr surgery to repair the damage hence the purple sling.”

Brown apologised to fans at having to cancel her book signing in New York, saying she is “absolutely gutted”. But she promised she will reschedule.

She continued: “My right arm/hand is all stitched up and I’m trying to keep still to heal my broken ribs, ohhh the pain, but I’m in super safe hands with the care of everyone here at the hospital!!!!! Thank you all for understanding, I love you all #accidentshappen #needtimetoheal.”

It is unclear how Brown sustained her injuries. Standard Online has contacted representatives for Brown for comment.
