An East Lothian woman who fell seriously ill while on holiday in Vietnam has arrived safely in Edinburgh after flying home from Singapore.
Mekala Osborne is at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after an 11,00km flight to Manchester on Saturday.
Accompanied by her mum Yvonne and the Singapore medics who treated her, 22-year-old Mekala was in her hospital bed during the flight from east Asia.
She contracted a severe case of pneumonia in September, at one point she was given just a 5% chance of survival.
Locals had raised thousands to ensure Yvonne could fly out to Singapore, where she saw Mekala wake from an induced coma.
The 22-year-old fitness instructor, from Prestonpans, had a tracheotomy and is using a breathing tube.
She hasnow been admitted to intensive care at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where she had a restful weekend.
Her stepfather Jimmy told the Daily Record: "It’s been terribly worrying and really traumatic for us all. Physically it’s been so draining just seeing her lying there linked up to various machines.
"At one stage she had three tubes going into her lungs alone.
"It was touch and go at some stages especially when she was being moved from Vietnam to Singapore when we were told to pray that she survives the trip - we were told that it was about a 5% chance she’d make the journey."
