Mehrdad Ghodoussi's message to Newcastle United fans after Kieran Trippier transfer

Newcastle United co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi has welcomed Kieran Trippier to the club and sent a message to supporters.

The England international has become the first signing of the new era on Tyneside, agreeing a two-and-a-half year contract following his move from Atletico Madrid.

Trippier will wear the number 15 shirt, and insists he 'can't wait to get started' after swapping life in the Spanish capital for a Premier League relegation battle in black-and-white.

Eddie Howe has revealed the club did not 'hesitate' to make a move for the 31-year-old, and thanked the owners being able to secure the deal so quickly.

It is a far cry from the Mike Ashley era when business - if any - would be conducted in the dying embers of transfer windows.

Ghodoussi has joined the thousands of Newcastle supporters in welcoming Trippier to the club on social media.

He posted: "Welcome to the family Kieran. Onwards and upwards."

It was a response echoed by ecstatic United fans, many of whom were quick to congratulate the owners.

One supporter wrote: "Great statement signing, Mehrdad, lad! Looking forward to the onslaught of signings in the coming weeks and pulling away from the drop."

Another fan replied: "Great first signing. Just the quality we need moving forward.

"Full House tomorrow. The fans are right behind you as we march to a bright future."
