Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Jamie Reuben share delight as Newcastle book Wembley spot with Carabao Cup win

Newcastle United co-owners Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Jamie Reuben both took to social media to share their delight following the Carabao Cup semi-final win over Southampton. An early brace from Sean Longstaff was enough to ease the Magpies to Wembley next month with an aggregate 3-1 victory over the Saints.

Che Adams' fine first-half strike set up an intriguing second-half, but despite plenty of possession for Nathan Jones' side, Newcastle held firm to seal their first domestic final since 1999. The Magpies will most likely face top-four rivals Manchester United for the showpiece occasion, with the Red Devils earning a three-goal lead from their first leg victory away at Nottingham Forest.

Tuesday night's victory is the latest highlight in what has already proven to be a stunning transformation on Tyneside since the takeover in October 2021. Ghodoussi has often taken to social media to pay tribute to Eddie Howe and the squad on matchdays, and joined in the celebrations following the success over the Saints.

He posted: "We’re going to wemberleyyyy…que sera sera." The message was met with a host of responses from jubilant Newcastle supporters, with many thanking the new owners for making dreams such as Wembley possible once again.

One fan replied: "Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I don't think anyone, anywhere could have done what you, Amanda, the Reubens and PIF have done for this football club in the space of 15 months. Absolute legends, all of you!"

Reuben also shared a message with supporters following the full-time whistle, with Newcastle set to contest their major domestic cup final since 1999. The co-owner simply wrote 'proud', with fans again expressing their gratitude for the revival which they have witnessed since the takeover.
