Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Jamie Reuben's message to Newcastle United signing Dan Burn

Newcastle United co-owners Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Jamie Reuben have welcomed Dan Burn home.

The Ashington-born defender secured a dream return to the North East late on deadline day in a £13m switch from Brighton.

Burn was released from his boyhood club at the age of 11, but worked his way back up the football ladder from spells with Blyth Spartans and Darlington.

The 29-year-old joined the Seagulls in the summer of 2018, and went on to make 74 Premier League appearances ahead of his Newcastle move.

The head coach expressed his delight at the acquisition of Burn and the 'profile' he will bring to the Magpies' backline.

It was a dream return for Burn to his boyhood club, and co-owners Ghodoussi and Reuben extended a warm welcome to the fifth January signing on social media.

Ghodoussi posted: "Some dreams are meant to be.. welcome back to where it all started Dan."

Reuben wrote: "Welcome home Dan ! #WeAreUnited "
