Mehajer's alleged helper in car crash 'conspiracy' swears at reporters, denies knowing him

Michael Moufferrige says he is not friends with Salim Mehajer.

A man charged with helping former Auburn City deputy mayor Salim Mehajer plan a car crash to get out of a court appearance last year has denied knowing him.

Michael Moufferrige has been charged with conspiring to cheat and defraud over his alleged involvement in the collision in Lidcombe.

Police say Mr Mehajer, 31, orchestrated the crash so he would not have to attend a trial that day for his alleged assault of a taxi driver.

It is alleged Fakaha Ki Malinda Moufferrige was driving the car which hit the vehicle Mr Mehajer was driving.

She has been charged in relation to the crash.

Two others, Elias Moufferrige and Nora-Anne Bush, have also been charged.

All four appeared in Burwood Local Court today, and the case was adjourned until March 28.

While leaving court, Michael Moufferrige denied being friends with Mr Mehajer and said he was not guilty.

He and Ms Bush swore at media as they left the court.

Mr Mehajer is in custody after being charged with perverting the course of justice and conspiracy to defraud by allegedly staging the car crash.
