Meghan Trainor recalls terrifying time baby son 'didn't wake up for a week' after birth

Meghan Trainor has bravely opened up about the "traumatic" experience she had after giving birth to her son Riley, as he "didn't wake up for a week".

The All About That Bass hitmaker, 28, welcomed her first child with her husband Daryl Sabara, 30, via C-section in February 2021 and said she felt as though she was blamed by some medical staff when Riley opted to sleep constantly.

She added she became frustrated with the lack of answers from her nurses.

"They were like, 'Sometimes it happens,' and then some nurses were like, 'Well, it's because you're on antidepressants.' And I'm like, 'Yeah, but I've been told by others that it's not that.'

"It was just really frustrating not having an answer. Not having answers for why my kid didn't wake up for a week was very frustrating," Meghan said in an interview with People.

Meghan has been open about her mental health struggles and has previously talked about accepting her body post-birth. The singer said she hopes by sharing her struggles, she might encourage others to seek help.

She added: "I'm comfortable telling my truth and talking about my personal things if it helps others."

Meghan previously admitted Riley was in the breech position before birth and had "breathing issues". She said she felt panicked when he didn't immediately cry

Speaking on the Today show, she said: "It was one of those horror stories where he didn't cry. He didn't make noise when he came out. I was like, 'Why isn't he crying?'"

Her son was immediately rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit so that he could be fed via a tube.

The singer said the worst part was the fact that she only seen him "for one second" before they whisked him away for extra help.

However, she then said: "We're so lucky we got to bring him home after five days."

Despite the "traumatic" start, Riley is now growing strong and has started saying "Dada" and running up to Meghan to give her cuddles.

Meghan's new single Made You Look debuts exclusively on Candy Crush Saga for 24 hours, beginning on Thursday, October 20 at 2pm.
