Meghan's hidden tribute to Princess Diana as she releases Archie picture for Mother's Day

Meghan Markle has paid a poignant tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, whilst sharing a second picture of son Archie for US Mother's Day.

A new image posted to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's Instagram account showed the newborn's feet above a splay of Forget-Me-Nots.

"Paying tribute to all mothers today - past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered. We honor and celebrate each and every one of you," read the post, which some presume was penned by Meghan due to the American spelling of 'honour'.

And her choice of background didn't go unnoticed by fans, who quickly picked up on the fact it was Diana and Prince Harry's favourite flower.

"Are those forget me nots in the background? Diana’s favourite flower? Touching. Happy Mother’s Day," one replied.

"Wait! Just realised those are Princess Diana's favourite flowers in the background," added another with a crying emoji.

"I noticed the tribute too," agreed a follower. "She would have loved her daughter in law, how thoughtful of them."

The flower carried such meaning for Harry that he went out and picked them from his garden for his bride's bouquet before their wedding last May.

"The spring blooms include Forget-Me-Nots which were Diana, Princess of Wales’ favourite flower," a statement from the royals revealed at the time.

"The couple specifically chose them to be included in Ms. Markle’s bouquet to honour the memory of the late Princess on this special day."
