Meghan Markle wears earrings gifted by Jacinda Ardern in acknowledgement of Christchurch victims

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at New Zealand House in London on Tuesday afternoon to pay their respects to the 50 people who were killed in the Christchurch terror attack last Friday.

The unannounced visit saw the couple lay flowers and sign the a book of condolences, after the young couple released a joint statement with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge last week saying: “We have all been fortunate to spend time in Christchurch and have felt the warm, open-hearted and generous spirit that is core to its remarkable people. No person should ever have to fear attending a sacred place of worship.”

The newlywed couple, who are expecting their first child imminently, carried out their first international royal tour in October 2018, when they visited New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Australia.

In addition to offering her condolences, Meghan used her choice of jewellery to subtly pay her respects. She accessorised her black ensemble with gold studs adorned with the native Miromiro feather, which had been a gift from the New Zealand of Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern.

The heavily pregnant duchess covered up her bump in a billowing, elegant black coat with statement buttons and a heavily embellished collar.

She also accessorised with new Aquazzura heels and a matching black Gucci clutch bag.
