Meghan Markle 'testing waters' for new career joining 'long tradition' of royals

Meghan Markle is said to be 'testing the waters' for a new career in joining a 'long tradition' of other royals, claims a royal author.

It comes after the Duchess of Sussex announced she had written a children's book, titled The Bench, which centres on the special relationship between a father and son as seen through the mother's eyes.

"The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father's Day, the month after Archie was born,'' Meghan said in a statement.

"That poem became this story."

The book is set to be released to the public next month, with pre-orders already pouring in across the world.

HeirPod host Omid Scobie and co-author of Finding Freedom, claimed the book could mark the start of a writing career for the Duchess - which would see her join a 'long tradition' of royals turning their hand to writing.

Scobie said: "I would imagine that this is the beginning of a long career doing children's books for Meghan.

"And, perhaps, testing the waters for other writing in the future.

Co-host and ABC news producer Zoe Magee agreed: "Well we know she likes to write and she's very good at it so why not?

"It's also in a long tradition of royal authors."

The picture book, published by Random House Children's Books, has been illustrated by award winning artist Christian Robinson, and the audiobook is narrated by the Duchess of Sussex.

Tantalising glimpses of the book's pages have been released today along with the announcement.

The book features joyful illustrations of multi-cultural families.

This latest venture comes at the peak of a busy year for the Sussexes.

She and Harry have been embroiled in tensions since announcing their decision to split from royal life a year ago.

The couple said they wished to start a new, independent life, and launched their own charitable foundation, Archewell.
