Meghan Markle tells Oprah life in Royal family is very 'different to what people imagine'

Meghan Markle's plans to lift the lid on life as a member of the British Royal family have been made clear in a teaser clip for her upcoming tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The former actress, 39, can be seen telling the American talk show icon that being part of The Firm "is different than I think what people imagine it to be" in the latest trailer released by CBS ahead of the highly-anticipated chat airing.

The Duchess of Sussex makes the claims after admitting that becoming a royal was tough after "having lived a really independent life" before marrying Prince Harry.

In the footage, that lasts one minute and 45 seconds, pregnant Meghan touches on how - what many would think to be a fairytale existence - is not as idyllic as it seems, due to not having the usual freedoms that she had prior to becoming Mrs Mountbatten-Windsor.

The clips begins with Oprah sharing that she had asked Meghan to take part in an interview prior to her tying the knot with Prince Harry in 2018.

Meghan then tells how she was unable to agree to take part in the chat with Oprah then and that even during their telephone discussion that other people were in the room at the time.

Oprah then adds that Meghan politely declined the interview, before asking the former Suits star why now "is the right time."

Meghan then goes on to explain that she now has "the right and privilege in some ways to be able to say yes" since she and Harry stepped down as senior members of the Royal family.

"We have the ability to make our own choices in a way that I couldn't have said yes to you then. That wasn't my choice to make," Meghan said.

Sharing how she believes being in the Royal family is different to what people view, she continues: "So, as an adult who lived a really independent life to then go into this construct that is different than I think what people imagine it to be, it's really liberating to be able to have the right and the privilege in some ways to be able to say yes."

Oprah replies: "And to say it for yourself and not to have to consult with anybody at this point."

"Yeah, to be able to just make a choice on your own. And just be able to speak for yourself," Meghan adds.

It is the latest bombshell clip to be released ahead of the eagerly awaited interview which will first air in the US on Sunday before being broadcast on ITV on Monday evening.

In another trailer released earlier this week, Meghan claimed that the Royals have played an 'active role' in perpetuating falsehoods about her and Harry.

She made the revelation after Oprah asked what she thought the Palace would think of her 'speaking her truth.'

Megan replied: "I don't know how they could expect that after all of this time we would still just be silent if there is an active role that The Firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us.

"And, if that comes with risk of losing things, I mean, I … there is a lot that’s been lost already," she added.

In the chat - that a spokesperson for the Oprah Winfrey Network confirmed that Harry and Meghan were not being paid for - the husband and wife will discuss marriage, parenthood and their decision to break free from the royal family and move to America.

Oprah with Harry and Meghan airs Monday 8 March at 9pm on ITV
