Meghan Markle steps out in South Africa wearing ethical fashion label and Kate Middleton’s favourite shoes

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have arrived in Cape Town for their ten-day tour of Africa.

For her first appearance, Meghan Markle opted for a black and white wrap dress by ethical brand Mayamiko, £69, which has already sold out. Her decision to wear the Malawi-based label is an early sign that she'll use her royal visit to champion local designers as well as showcase sustainable fashion.

Mayamiko works in partnership with the Mayamiko Trust which aims to help the most disadvantaged people in Malawi through The Mayamiko Fashion Lab. At the lab, where all the brand's clothes are made, staff are given training in sewing and tailoring as well as financial skills which leads to a recognised qualification.

The brand also donates £1 for each garment sold directly to Mayamiko Trust and has given over £20,000 since it began.

Mayamiko also supports local women by creating reusable sanitary pads out of scrap fabric from the Lab. Girls can miss up to four days of school due to a lack of access to feminine hygiene products and this goes some way to improve the opportunities of students in the local area.

To complement the dress, Meghan Markle chose to wear a pair of 'Carina' espadrilles by Spanish brand Castaner.

The £80 espadrilles are a favourite of the royal set. Meghan chose to wear them twice during her royal tour of Australia, Fiji, New Zealand and Tonga last year. The Duchess of Cambridge regularly steps out wearing the heels and was last spotted wearing a beige version of the shoes on a royal engagement in June to The Royal Photographic Society.

Royal-in-law Pippa Middleton is also a fan of the Spanish brand.

Meghan kept her hair pinned from her face and her make-up natural, while Prince Harry chose an outfit which was sartorially similar to Meghan's, a white button-down and black trousers.

The couple's first visit on their tour was to a Justice Desk initiative in Nyanga township and their next stop, later in the day, will be a tour of the District Six Museum and the District Six Homecoming Centre.

Harry and Meghan are in for a busy week with a packed itinerary of 86 official engagements, including a meeting with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his wife, as well as Nelson Mandela's widow, Grace Machel, among many others.
