Meghan Markle set to bag yet another prestigious award from activist friend

Meghan Markle is set to receive yet another award - and this one will be presented by one of her friends.

It has been revealed today that she is one of the recipients of this year's Ms. Foundation Women of Vision Award, which is run by America's oldest women's foundation.

Meghan is set to receive the accolade for "her global advocacy to empower and advocate on behalf of women and girls" through her work at her and Prince Harry's Archewell Foundation.

It will be presented to her by political activist and friend Gloria Steinem, who Meghan has been seen out with on several occasions.

Meghan is one of several women to receive the award this year with others including Black Voters Matter co-founder LaTosha Brown and as well as emerging leaders abortion rights activist Olivia Julianna and LGBTQ+ advocate Rebekah Bruesehoff.

The awards will be handed out at the Ms. Foundation's annual gala on May 16 at New York City's Ziegfeld Ballroom, part of its 50th-anniversary celebration where funds raised will go toward the organization's equity-centered initiatives.

Teresa C. Younger, Ms. Foundation president and CEO, said: "Meghan, LaTosha, Wanda, Kimberly, Olivia, and Rebekah are incredible leaders.

"We are grateful to be able to shine a light on their many accomplishments and tireless work on behalf of gender and racial equity across the country and the world."

A report earlier this year showed that Harry and Meghan had raised $13million and given away $3million to charitable causes through Archewell.

The couple's charitable foundation, which was set up after they stepped down from their royal roles, released a 24-page report earlier this year detailing the causes that have been helped by the money they have donated since it was founded in 2020, which include Covid vaccines and Afghan refugees.

Cash was also donated to the World Central Kitchen as well as to a project to build a playground in Uvalde, Texas, where a gun massacre took place in a school last year killing 19 children and two teachers.

However, tax filings that were published last week r evealed the couple only worked one hour each week at Archewell in 2021.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed their working hours in the non-profit's tax returns - which is similar to one week's full-time work.

Across 2021, they worked 52 hours each but managed to draw in £10 million from wealthy backers who propped the organisation up.

The couple say they have made their humanitarian charity their priority since stepping back as working royals.
