"Samantha has been the driving force behind initiatives such as The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy, of which Cool Earth is a managing partner.

The communications star rose through the ranks after applying to be a media minder at Buckingham Palace 20 years ago, while on a trip to London from her home country.

Nicknamed 'Samantha the Panther' in royal circles, the Australian also served as a communications secretary during her 17 year career working for the Windsor family.

The mother-of-three is held in high regard by the royal family and has been described as 'unstuffy' and 'deeply committed' to the Queen.

She had taken on the role as an interim at the request of Harry and Meghan following the departure of predecessor Edward Lane Fox after five years of service but refused a permanent job.

Her resignation fulled rumours that Meghan was difficult to work following the departure of her personal assistant Melissa Touabti who also quit.
