Meghan Markle's thinly veiled nod to quitting royal life in cryptic advice to couple

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry appeared to make a thinly veiled nod to their decision to quit the royal family as they told a newly engaged couple "love always wins".

The couple heard from spoken word artist George the Poet on the debut episode of their new Spotify podcast series, Archewell Audio, who let them in on a secret - that he was about to propose to his girlfriend.

Speaking about his hopes for 2021, George explains: "By the time you guys hear me I will be engaged so I would love to give a shout out to my beautiful fiance Sanda who has no idea about any of this at the time of recording. Wish us luck guys."

Meghan says: "That's amazing, and George and Sandra - congratulations.

Harry adds: "Congratulations guys. George, hopefully it was a yes. If it's not or it wasn't then this is kinda awkward.

Meghan: "We're going to go with it was a yes, of course it was a yes."

She then offers some cryptic words of advice, saying: "From us I will say, no matter what life throws at you guys, trust us when we say - love wins.

Harry repeats her comment, saying: "Love always wins", putting emphasis on the 'always' before Meghan adds: "So true."

The couple then go on to talk about their royal wedding, sharing a song from their special day in 2018.

Meghan explains: "This Little Light of Mine played at the very end of our wedding while we were walking down the steps of the church.

"It was the music that we wanted playing when we started our lives together.

"As we all know, darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that."

Harry adds: "It's a song that means so much to us.

"The message of this song is one we hold so dearly. It's about using the power we all have within us to make this world a better place."

They close the podcast by wishing listeners a happy new year and thanking them for listening, before handing over to a very special guest - their son Archie.

The proud parents bring little Archie to the microphone, with Harry saying: "You can speak into it".

Meghan then asks: "Archie is it fun?" and he repeats the word "fun".

The tot then copies his dad to say "Happy New Year" in a cute American accent followed by an adorable giggle.

Royal sources said Buckingham Palace was aware Harry and Meghan had set up their own production company to produce podcasts, but had “no knowledge” of the sums involved.

One well placed insider said: "The initial multi year deal is worth in excess of £30 million with a view to extending the deal within six months.

"Meghan was the driving force behind the deal. She was incredible in the meetings with executives and had a clear vision of what they as a couple have to offer.

"There is a massive buzz about the content and the reach not only for Spotify but for Harry and Meghan, they have the midas touch right now.

“Spotify’s whole business plan is to acquire the world’s most talked about celebrities in one place and Harry and Meghan fit the bill entirely.

"It's a win win scenario."

Spotify announced an estimated £200 million worth of exclusive deals this year with major names in the entertainment world.

Michelle Obama debuted "The Michelle Obama Podcast" on Spotify in July after singing a deal rumoured to be worth tens of millions.

Reality star turned campaigner Kim Kardashian West, married to music mogul Kanye West, also signed an exclusive deal with Spotify in June.
