Meghan Markle's tension with dad faces new hurdle as they battle for same award

To say their relationship is under strain would be like saying Henry VIII was not much cop as a husband.

But now the fallout between Meghan Markle and her father Thomas is facing a new hurdle – as both are up for Baftas.

Actress Meghan, 37, could scoop her first award – of sorts – as the BBC’s Royal Wedding Coverage is up for Live Event.

But, in a move set to cause sniggers in the Royal household, dad Thomas Snr’s explosive Good Morning Britain interview has also got a nod.

Meghan Markle's 'unflattering new nickname' will have angered Prince Harry, claims expert

Piers Morgan’s exclusive caused a right royal storm when Thomas, 74, spilled all about Prince Harry ’s Brexit views and blasted Meghan’s decision to “ghost him”. But it is now up for the Best News Coverage award along with GMB’s On a Knife Edge crime special.

Meghan made clear her fury about her dad’s public remarks in a letter saying: “If you love me, please stop.”

And she’ll be mortified if his turn wins at the Virgin Media Bafta TV Awards do on May 12. It could be awkward too for Bafta president Prince William.

Piers’ inevitable gloating will be pretty painful for the rest of us to watch, too.
