Meghan Markle's son could be a Prince after all - but he'll have to wait a few years

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed a baby boy yesterday, but unlike his cousins George and Louis, he won't be a prince.

As he's seventh in line to the throne, and will be bumped even further down when the Cambridge kids have babies of their own, he's not senior enough to get a fancy title.

George V, the Queen's grandfather, changed the rules to cut down the size of the family meaning that HRHs only go to children of the sons of the monarch and their partners.

This means Baby Sussex will probably be the 'least royal' frontline member of the Royal Family, and will instead have the title of Earl of Dumbarton.

But there are a few ways he could still end up becoming a Prince.

Not all members of the Royal Family have a HRH title (Daily Mirror)

How much Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's royal baby will be worth - and it's a fortune

Firstly, the Queen could change the rules and give him a HRH title, just as she did for Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

But this is very, very unlikely.

Meghan and Harry are keen for their child to have a normal life, so they probably wouldn't want him to be a prince anyway.

But according to the Daily Mail , there's another way he could get a HRH title in the future - but hopefully it won't be for many years.

Robert Hardman writes: "Their son will automatically be promoted to HRH and a prince in due course when his grandfather the Prince of Wales accedes to the throne.

Princess Diana's former butler says 'Doria would not get a look in

Princess Diana's brother shares sweet message about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's royal baby

"For now, he joines the ranks of royal grandchildren and great-grandchildren whose parents have, to one extent or another, opted out of the system.

"Here we have a new addition to the family who is seventh in line but non-royal. And yet we have two HRHs who do not even feature in the top-40 - Prince Micheal od Kent and Princess Alexandra."

Not having a title isn't uncommon, and many of the Queen's children opted against HRHs for their kids.

Anne and Mark Phillips didn't give their kids Peter and Zara titles, a decision both are very grateful of.
