Meghan Markle's royal family struggle was a 'huge shame' says Jeremy Irons

Legendary actor Jeremy Irons has sympathised with Meghan Markle's struggle within the royal family, saying it is a "huge shame" for the monarchy.

The 73-year-old's comments came as he compared the royals to the House of Gucci family in Ridley Scott's new film that stars Lady Gaga.

Irons plays the patriarch of the family, Rodolfo Gucci in the film, which reveals the true story surrounding the relationship between Patrizia Reggiani and her husband Maurizio Gucci.

He compared Patrizia, who marries into the Gucci family to Meghan's experience with entering the royal family.

“She’s moving into a different way of life, a different class, a different nationality and trying to do her best and it is not working, which I think is a huge shame for our monarchy," the actor said.

“That’s a parallel story.”

The film follows Lady Gaga's character Patrizia and her struggle to fit in with her in-laws and is made to feel like an outsider.

Jeremy added that the Gucci family thought of themselves like royalty in their home country of Italy, which triggered huge egos and sunk into even darker storylines.

Giving his praise to Ridley Scott, the actor said: "Ridley shoots with many cameras at the same time. Four cameras on Gucci,” he continued.

“On the first picture I did with him, he sometimes had about seven cameras going.

“That’s wonderful because it means you don’t have to do a performance and then reverse and then different angles and remember what on earth you were doing on take two when it was that way around.

“So that’s glorious. It also makes it very, very fast.”

It has been revealed that Harry and Meghan quit the royal family after after a photo of them and baby Archie was removed when the Queen gave her Christmas speech, a new book claims.

The couple were allegedly upset when the image was absent during the monarch's 2019 festive broadcast.

Months later they rocked the royal family by announcing they were quitting and starting a new life overseas.

The new book, Brothers and Wives: Inside The Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan by Christopher Andersen, alleges that the Queen asked for the Sussexes image to be removed.

The framed photo was initially on a desk alongside other family images, including photos of William and Kate, Prince Charles and Camilla, the Queen's father George VI and the Duke of Edinburgh.

But ahead of recording, she ordered an aide to remove the photo, which featured Harry and Meghan holdingtheir then-seven-month-old son Archie.
