Meghan Markle's new title under review by palace after 'awkward divorce blunder'

Meghan Markle's new title is under review by the palace after an awkward blunder meant she has been given one of a divorced royal.

Palace sources have confirmed to Sky News that a review is underway over a misplaced comma.

It comes as it was revealed on Saturday that the couple would be referred to as Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

They will keep their HRH titles but not use them.

However in the past only divorced women in the Royal Family have had a comma placed after their first name such as Diana, Princess of Wales and Sarah, Duchess of York.

Eagle-eyed royalists have argued that the comma has been correctly applied because Meghan is a divorcee.

However, Palace sources told Sky News they believe the comma was placed erroneously and they will be announcing how the couple will be titled in due course.

Sky's events commentator Alastair Bruce said: "What had been suggested was 'Meghan, Duchess of Sussex' but placing the first name and comma before the title is the template for a divorced wife.

"As an example, Harry's mother was styled after her divorce as 'Diana, Princess of Wales' and the same format applies, post-divorce, to 'Sarah, Duchess of York'.

"I fear that eight years giving advice to Downton Abbey makes me eagle-eyed for such things."

Mirror Online has contacted the Palace for a comment.
