Meghan Markle's mum will play big part in baby's early life and 'be hands-on' gran

Meghan Markle's mother will play a big part in the royal baby's early life and help teach the child positive values the Duchess herself was taught as a youngster, her uncle says.

The Duchess of Sussex is expected to give birth this month or at the beginning of May.

Doria Ragland has always been close to her daughter and is expected to fly over from the US for the birth very soon.

Meghan's uncle, Joseph Johnson, has said he thinks 62-year-old Doria will be a big part of the baby's life and be a 'hands-on' gran.

The 69-year-old, who reportedly shares the same mother as Doria, says he thinks his sister will be a great grandma.

He predicts the baby will be raised with love and kindness - as he says Meghan was.

Meghan Markle was given a sweet nickname by her mum - and she still calls her it

Mr Johnson told the Daily Mail in an interview in California: "I think [Doria] will be a big part. I think she'll be hands-on, just because of Meghan's time constraints. She'll have to be around.

"I think she'll be a great grandmother, if she helps raise that child anything like Meghan was raised."

He said Meghan spent a lot of time with her own granny Jeanette, who played a big part in her infancy.

The pair stayed close until her grandmother's death from heart disease and stroke aged 71 in 2000, the report says.

Mr Johnson believes that because Meghan had a strong formative relationship with her own gran, she would also want Doria to play a prominent role in her baby's life.

He said Doria brought Meghan up to have love, kindness and a sense of self, teaching her how important it is to help others and have courage.

Mr Johnson predicts these positive values will also be instilled in the new baby.

Doria is expected to make regular visits to the UK after the birth and it is understood she will have her own quarters in Harry and Meghan's Frogmore Cottage home in Windsor.
