Meghan Markle's favourite make up artist wins legal battle against Aldi

One of Meghan Markle’s favourite beauticians has won a legal battle with Aldi for flogging £6.99 copycat sets of her £49 bronzer.

Charlotte Tilbury did the make-up for guests including Amal Clooney at the Royal wedding.

The German-owned chain copied her best-selling Filmstar Bronze and Glow palette – calling theirs Lacura Broadway Shape and Glow.

But a High Court judge ruled similarities between Tilbury’s copyrighted packaging, including a starburst ray effect and a diamond impression for the logo, were “substantial.”

Aldi – with the slogan “like brands, only cheaper” – hit £13million in sales of them in six months, so Charlotte could be in line for big damages.

Aldi came under fire after posh yoghurt maker The Collective last year accused it of copying its Moo! range.

And sausage firm Heck! called it a “parasite” for launching near-identical chicken chipolatas.

Oliver Fairhurst, of property lawyers Lewis Silkin, said: “The similarity between brands that inspire it and Aldi’s own products has long been a bone of contention.”

Aldi said: “This relates to a product on sale for a very short period in December 2018. The dispute has been fully resolved.”

London-born Charlotte, 46 – called the Queen of Glow – was made an MBE in 2018.
