Meghan Markle's explosive return to spotlight - sleek look, cosy date, rejected kiss

For the first few months of the year, Meghan Markle stayed under the radar as Prince Harry promoted his controversial memoir, Spare.

But as the days countdown to the Coronation of King Charles, the Duchess of Sussex appears to have made an explosive return to public life.

She's made several high-profile appearances in the past week alone and signed to a high-profile Hollywood talent agency, leaving fans wondering what her next move will be.

So how has Meghan, who will not be attending the Coronation, returned to the limelight and what is next in store for her? Here we take a look....

Sleek new look

It was over two weeks ago that it was announced that Harry would be attending his father's Coronation - but Meghan would not.

Instead, the Duchess will be staying behind in California with children Prince Archie, who turns four on the same day, and Princess Lilibet.

In the weeks before that, Meghan had kept a relatively low profile and even in the weeks after the announcement stayed under the radar.

However, when she did finally break cover on Sunday night, she appeared to debut a sleek new look as she supported a close pal.

A beaming Meghan was seen via videolink introducing a Ted Talk by her long-time friend and photographer Misan Harriman, who has snapped many photos of her family.

Her appearance introducing the talk emerged after Misan posted a photo on Instagram showing Meghan on the big screen, smiling as she spoke.

He wrote: "The Duchess of Sussex was kind enough to introduce me unto the stage for my @ted Thank you for the support Meg."

In the photo, Meghan can be seen with her sleek, straight hair cascading over her shoulders while wearing a white top, with the screen indicating her name as Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.

Introducing him, Meghan praised Misan's "unmatched eye for a good photograph" and added: "I've experienced his talent first hand as he has captured many meaningful milestones for me and my family. And I know there are many others who share this experience."

And before getting down to his lecture, Meghan said: "I am so thrilled to welcome to the TED stage, my dear friend Misan Harriman."

Cosy date - but rejected kiss

Just a day after first breaking cover, Meghan was then spotted alongside Harry with a surprise appearance in the crowd at an LA Lakers basketball game.

However, the pair laughed awkwardly when they were caught on the kiss camera at the Crypto.com arena - with Meghan appearing to reject Harry's advances.

Despite thousands clapping and cheering, encouraging them to kiss, Meghan seemed reluctant, even as Harry seemingly leaned in for a smooch.

And according to body language expert Judi James, Meghan used a flirty partial barrier gesture to reject Harry's advances.

She told the Mirror: "Giggling and flirting together at the basketball, Harry and Meghan’s body language last night might just have provided a snapshot of their mood and dynamic prior to the even more public moment on May 6, when Harry will presumably be sitting in solitary, isolated and reflective mode at his father's coronation in the UK.

"These are first-date, flirty signals from the couple, who use head closeness and eye engagement to show their levels of bonding.

"The body language is tactile and even romantic but it also shows Meghan taking the lead in terms of rejecting the offer of a Kiss-cam kiss that Harry seems more than up for.

"Meghan's hand-to-mouth movement looks coy and flirty but it also forms a partial barrier in terms of any public snog.

"She also places her right hand on Harry's arm to keep him in his seat here and Harry does a comedy grimace to the fans to register the fact that his wife has taken the grown-up role in terms of protecting their dignity.

"It's playful and affectionate signalling but with a hint from Meghan of getting it right in front of the cameras.

Hollywood signing

On the back of her recent public appearances, many have been wondering what Meghan's next move will be.

And a major hint was dropped when it was revealed she has signed up to a powerhouse Hollywood talent agency that has represented major stars including Dwayne Johnson, Adele, and tennis player Serena Williams.

Meghan is now on the books of William Morris Endeavor (WME), where her team will include Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel, as well as agents Brad Slater and Jill Smoller.

WME will also represent Archewell, Prince Harry and Meghan's content creation label. The agency is expected to work with the duchess on film and TV production, brand partnerships and overall business-building - but will not focus on acting.

Announcing the news this morning, WME tweeted a photo of a beaming Meghan wearing a black and white off the shoulder dress.

It wrote: "We are honored to announce that WME now represents Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex in all areas.

"The agency will be focusing on building out her business ventures across multiple facets of the agency & its broader ecosystem, including film & television production, brand partnerships & more."

Return of the Tig?

So with Meghan's return to the spotlight, what could the future have in store?

Well last month, rumours began to swirl that she was poised to relaunch her lifestyle blog, The Tig.

Meghan shut down the popular website, where she shared recipes, style tips and lifestyle advice, shortly after she began dating Prince Harry.

But last month, it emerged she got official preliminary approval to revive the website - and is ready to take on Gwyneth Paltrow’s £200million Goop.

Like Goop, the revamped blog would offer tips on food, travel, fashion, the arts, design, conscious living and wellness.

The mum of two could also become a kind of agony aunt, according to details filed with the US Trademark and Patent Office.

However, despite some fans hoping she could also return to Instagram, the rumours were scotched by her unofficial biographer.

Both she and Prince Harry have not had an official social media presence since they sensationally quit as working royals three years ago.

Their final post on their once-active @SussexRoyal Instagram account was in March 2020 - and almost three years on, many have wondered when and if they will return online.

There had been rumours that Meghan had set up a secret account with the handle @Meghan after it reportedly emerged on Instagram with a previously unseen image of the 41-year-old as a child.

But in a column for Yahoo earlier this year, Meghan's biographer and royal expert Omid Scobie writes a rep for the Sussexes says this is "all trash".

He says that a return to Instagram for Meghan is wishful thinking" as a source told him: "She has no account on the platform at present or on the horizon."
