Meghan Markle's Ellen stunt 'didn't work' says Lorraine Kelly as she weighs in on interview

Lorraine Kelly thought Meghan Markle's "stunt" on Ellen "didn't work".

The former actress appeared on the US talk show yesterday, where she took part in a funny skit that saw her drink milk out of a baby's bottle, eat crisps like a chipmunk and meow like a cat.

But Lorraine admitted she was less than impressed with the stunt as she gave her verdict on the interview.

Speaking on ITV, she said: "It's a strange one isn't it, you're right - you wouldn't see Kate do that but they are distancing themselves from the royal family. I think what she's trying to do with paid leave for parents is actually a really good thing."

"I think the sort of stunt didn't really work for me," she added, commenting on Meghan's skit.

It comes after royal expert Emily Andrews claimed Meghan "rebooted her personality" with her appearance on Ellen.

She said: "We often talk about the British sense of humour and the American sense of humour and maybe Meghan struggled slightly over here because she's very American, where celebrity and achievement is celebrated whereas in the UK we slightly have this tall poppy syndrome - you don't want to get too big for your boots.

"I think she has needed to reboot her image a little bit because some Americans, I've been told by friends out there, felt that her politicising - cold calling senators about paid family leave."

"Look, the Americans fought a war to get rid of the British royal family. And now there's a member of the royal family campaigning," she continued, "One of the things Meghan didn't like when she was in the UK was the restrictions that being a member of the royal family gave her. I think many Americans will love this and will love the acting but has it worn off in America aswell?"

As part of her time on the show, Meghan took part in a funny skit with Ellen in control of what she was saying (PA)

During the show, Ellen explained how she was in control of what Meghan was saying, talking to her through an ear piece.

"I sent Meghan out to do some shopping. She wore an ear pierce and had to say and do everything I told her do," she shared, before adding that the former actor was joined by one of the show's writers.
