Meghan Markle's cheeky joke about how she was introduced to Prince Harry

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry told the world that they met after being set up by a mutual friend during their official engagement interview.

But they didn't say who the friend was, saying they were going to "protect their privacy", which of course means everyone has been trying to guess ever since.

Lots of people have been credited for matchmaking the royal couple, including Harry's friend Violet von Wstenholz and fashion designer Mischa Nonoo.

In a new interview body image campaigner and actress Jameela Jamil revealed the Duchess made a very cheeky joke about their first meeting during a rather unexpected phone call to discuss the edition of Vogue she edited .

Jameela was asked to write to write an essay for the magazine about three months ago, but she had no idea about Meghan's involvement in the project.

But in the lead up to publication the Duchess tried to call her to explain what was going on and apologise for the secrecy.

However unaware of who it was, Jameela missed the call three times, saying she wanted to "punch herself" when she realised who it was.

She said their chat was "very LOLs" and she also discovered that Meghan is a big fan of her TV show The Good Place.

Speaking to Grazia magazine , she said: "She said she loved The Good Place.

"I then felt immediately embarrassed that she had seen me joke about her on the show.

"She said she's grateful to Tahani for introducing her to Harry. I just replied, "you're welcome"."

Jameela's character Tahani, known for her celebrity pals and constant name-dropping, claims to have introduced the couple in the programme.

For her Forces of Change issue, Meghan picked 15 inspirational women who she admires - including Jameela.

As guest editor, she was heavily involved in choosing women across fashion, film, tech and beyond to feature.

These include actress Yara Shahidi, model Adwoa Aboah, climate change campaigner Greta Thunberg, activist and actor Jane Fonda, LGBTQIA+ advocate and actor Laverne Cox.
