Meghan Markle's brother issues surprise apology to her and Prince Harry

Thomas Markle Jr has issued a surprise apology to his estranged sister, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, and her husband Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex.

Penning a letter in an attempt to rectify wrongs of the past, Markle Jr put pen to paper while in the Big Brother VIP Australia compound.

The new open letter he penned is in response to his previous public letter before the couple tied the knot in May, 2018.

In the letter from more than three years ago, Meghan's brother publicly shamed her and beau Harry's relationship, while labelling his sister a “jaded, shallow, conceited woman".

“The first thing I want to say to both of you is that I’m sorry from the bottom of my heart for the awful mean letter that I wrote to you prior to your wedding,” Markle Jr wrote in the scene that played out on screen in today’s episode of the Australian reality show.

“And I want both of you to know it did not come from the real person that I am, but came from a very dark and hurt part of my heart … I am not a mean person at all, and I have more love inside me to give than anything.”

He continued: “The letter was definitely written out of me feeling like really like hurt and confused when I was informed of your response that I was distant family and that you did not know those people.

"I was very hurt and confused because of the amazing bond and relationship we shared growing up together and all I could do was put up a defence wall to protect my heart."

Thomas Markle Jr, his sister Samantha, and their father Thomas Markle have no contact with the Duchess of Sussex.

Meghan's father often speaks out about his estranged daughter, and how he would love to meet his grandchildren, who live moments away from him in the US.

It has been well documented that the relationships within the Markle family broke down when Meghan started to date Prince Harry.

Speaking last week, Thomas Markle Jr said he believed his sister and her husband would be watching him on the Australian reality series.

He said: “I think even the Queen will watch it.

“I am 100 per cent sure Meghan and Harry will watch it. One could only hope she would want to see how her brother is doing."

Last month Thomas Markle claimed that his daughter 'pretty much disowned both sides of her family', when he spoke to Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain.

Urging the Duchess of Sussex to 'grow up', Thomas claimed that his daughter Meghan 'changed' when she met Prince Harry, before saying that it was 'ridiculous' that he had been estranged for so long.

When Thomas was asked about why he thinks Meghan won't speak to him, he replied: "You're asking me a question that is four years old, and I can't answer it. I don't know what changed her.

"She's never been that way before and once she hooked up with Harry, she changed."

"I understand that she hooked up with Soho Club and a different group of people, but she's pretty much disowned both sides of her family, and I don't understand the reason for it."
