Meghan Markle raised eyebrows with dress choice for forgotten engagement photoshoot

After telling the world they were to be married, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry started planning the perfect engagement photoshoot as a way of remember the special time.

The couple picked photographer Alexi Lubomirski and decided on the grounds of Frogmore House as the location, which would later become the venue for their wedding reception. And the results were simply stunning.

The couple released three of the snaps, but many royal fans may have forgotten the gorgeous images.

They showed the couple walking hand in hand through the house's grounds and cuddling, feeling far more personal than those taken at the official photocall to announce their news.

While the majority of people were absolutely delighted by the snaps, they also gave Meghan her first real insight into what life as a royal would be like - and the level of scrutiny that would come with her new Duchess of Sussex title.

Speaking after the photos were published, Lubomirski said the couple wanted the photos to be "accessible [and] relatable."

But one thing that certainly didn't tick either of those boxes was the price tag on Meghan's dress, which raised many eyebrows. It reportedly cost $75,000, which is about £62,000.

She wore a stunning semi-sheer Ralph & Russo dress with feather detailing and a ruffled skirt. The black tulle gown was from the London-based designers' AW17 collection and features a silk organza skirt, hand appliqued with silk tulle ruffles and embroidered with gold thread-work.

But while some criticised her decision to wear such an expensive gown, others loved it.

One fan wrote on Twitter : "I can't with these two. Also, I'm going to go broke from buying clothes to look like Meghan Markle. THAT DRESS. #perfection "

Another added: "Meghan Markle's engagement dress is GOALS."

Recalling the special day, Lubomirski said: "It was an incredible honour to be asked to document this wonderful event, but also a great privilege to be invited to share and be a witness to this young couple's love for one another.

"I cannot help but smile when I look at the photos that we took of them, such was their happiness together."

The couple only originally released two photos from the shoot, however decided to share a third after being inundated by messages from well-wishers.

They captioned the third snap, which shows them walking side by side along a lake: "Thank you so much for all of the wonderful comments following the release of Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle's engagement photographs.

"The couple are so grateful for the warm and generous messages they have received during such a happy time in their lives.

"As a way to say thank you, they have decided to share this candid photograph from the day of their portrait sittings directly with all of you."
