Meghan Markle praised by Duck! Rabbit! author’s widower after reading to Archie

The widower of a beloved children's author has sent an emotional message to Meghan Markle after she read the writer's most famous text to Archie.

On Wednesday Prince Harry and his wife marked the first birthday of their son Archie by taking part in a Save With Stories storytime on Instagram.

As part of the charity initiative the Duchess of Sussex read 'Duck! Rabbit! with her toddler, who helped to turn the pages.

At the end of the reading Harry, 35, and Meghan, 38, cheered while Archie grabbed the book, placed it in his mouth and giggled.

After seeing the sweet video Jason Rosenthal, who is the widow of the book's co-author Amy Krouse Rosenthal, said he was touched to see his late wife's work read in such a way.

He said in a statement: "Although Meghan Markle is clearly one of the most famous people in the world, seeing her read Duck! Rabbit!  to her son Archie was so relatable to any parent anywhere.

“There he was squirming around, smiling and just being a regular little boy.

"What a testament to Amy that her book has such meaning to so many families.”

Amy died of ovarian cancer in March 2017, days after a heartbreaking contribution she made to the New York Times' Modern Love column went viral.

In it she gave her husband permission to move on after her death.

Three years later Jason continues to come to terms with Amy's death.

He recently told CBS : "After my loss, many people reached out to me with their own stories, and I came to an epiphany of sorts that I am reminded of today: that loss is loss is loss, unique to each one of us, yet a shared story for us all.

“As you are isolated, feeling a sense of tremendous loss and grief, know that those are normal feeling as we manage this crisis.

"We can be alone, together.”

Meghan and Harry's video of Archie gained a huge amount of attention when it was released online.

Eagle eyed viewers noticed that if you zoom into the right hand side of the book near the the top there is a clue little Archie could be following in the footsteps of Oprah Winfrey, Sarah Jessica Parker and Reece Witherspoon.

Royal fans revealed on social media that at very close inspection there is a white sticker with black writing that says "Archie's Book Club".

Speculation on social media seems to point at the book being a gift from Oprah.

The billionaire TV host set up her book club in 1996 and since then a majority of her selected books have become bestsellers.

One woman said: "Most likely a gift from Oprah, she is known to give her friends who just had babies a bookcase filled with books that says it’s their book club. Prime example is Mindy Kaling."
