The winner - and still queen of all she surveys - is the Duchess of Sussex.
“This is a victory not just for me, but for anyone who has ever felt scared to stand up for what’s right,” she said in her triumphant statement.
Forget the newspapers. Meghan Markle has always had a legion of critics queuing up to kill her for the crime of daring to stand up for herself.
Women who marry into The Firm are largely expected to be seen and not heard. To turn up, look pretty and be picked apart.
For a woman of mixed heritage who found herself in a culture clash with the most infamous family on earth, let’s not kid ourselves, Meghan’s struggle was even more real.

Yes, those emails to Prince William’s CEO, Jason Knauf, at best showed her to have had an expectation that her correspondence would be leaked. But they also suggested that in a dirty war she was prepared for even her best intentions to be subverted by those wishing to malign her. Now her success is legally binding.
So she had a few moves up her sleeve. Why would she not with so many dark forces from within against her?
Meghan has never been prepared to accept being silenced. Why should she? Gen Z doesn't want her to be.
Why should she bend to the will of the naysayers who find fault with everything she does; the detractors who look every which way they can to undermine her attempts to inspire a generation?
She is doing so anyway with her success speaking truth to power. Look, in a free country you can be ambivalent towards her, neutral, or completely disinterested even. Each to their own.
But why do so many people have a problem with her? Especially when the current generation sees her as such an icon. Most of Meghan’s haters can’t even put their finger on the reasons why.
It isn’t for her or Prince Harry to decide how the press should go about its collective business. It never will be.
But Meghan is right to fight her corner and remind every person outside of her environment who finds themselves in a similar situation that they need not take the hits lying down.
