Meghan Markle Honors Princess Diana With Sapphire Earrings at Canadian Gala

Meghan Markle stepped out with Prince Harry on Friday, August 7, wearing a pair of diamond-and-sapphire earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana, adding a personal touch to her look for the David Foster Foundation's 40th anniversary gala in Victoria, British Columbia.

The Duchess of Sussex, 45, arrived on the red carpet at the Victoria Conference Centre in a dark, floor-length gown by Canadian label Greta Constantine, several outlets reported the design as a one-shoulder silhouette with a draped cape detail. The gown's clean, minimalist lines kept the focus on Meghan's jewelry choice, with her hair swept back into a sleek updo and her look otherwise pared back — no necklace, allowing the earrings to serve as the evening's statement piece.

Prince Harry, 41, coordinated with a classic black tuxedo and bow tie.

The earrings, a diamond-and-sapphire design from Princess Diana's personal jewelry collection, are not among the pieces Meghan wears most frequently, making the choice notable to royal jewelry watchers. The Duchess has periodically incorporated pieces connected to her late mother-in-law into her wardrobe over the years, a pattern that continued Friday night in a setting far removed from royal protocol.

The choice of a Canadian designer for a Canadian event was also a deliberate touch. Greta Constantine, founded by Stephen Wong and Sano Bane, has dressed Meghan on previous occasions, including a green off-the-shoulder gown she wore at a 2025 Invictus Games event in Vancouver. Friday's gown, worn on Vancouver Island, extended that relationship and underscored a recurring theme in Meghan's public style: favoring local designers when appearing in the country where an event is held.

The gala marked four decades of the David Foster Foundation, the charity founded by the Grammy-winning producer to support Canadian families whose children require life-saving organ transplants. Harry and Meghan attended as guests of Foster and his wife, singer and actress Katharine McPhee, longtime friends of the couple. The two families have known each other for years, a friendship that predates the Sussexes' move to California and includes Foster's help arranging private accommodations for the couple during a visit to Vancouver Island in 2019.

Friday's black-tie event was the first of a two-part anniversary celebration, with a free public concert, David Foster & Friends, set for Saturday at Victoria's Inner Harbour.

Meghan's appearance continued a pattern of high-profile red carpet looks for the Duchess this year, following earlier 2026 gala appearances in Los Angeles. Friday's outfit stood apart for its personal dimension, using a single accessory to link a Canadian charity evening to her family history.
