Meghan Markle 'heading for tricky situation' just like Diana, warns royal author

Meghan Markle may have slipped out of the public eye to prepare for the arrival of her first child, but that doesn't seem to stop the world from discussing every aspect of her life.

Most recently, the Duchess of Sussex has been warned that her marriage is "going to become increasingly difficult".

These words came courtesy of royal expert and author Anna Pasternak, who also claims the mum-to-be might soon find herself facing a "tricky situation" much like Princess Diana and Wallis Simpson before her.

Appearing on Yahoo UK's The Royal Box, Ms Pasternak, began by comparing Meghan to another American duchess, Wallis Simpson.

Wallis, who later became known as the Duchess of Windsor, was an American socialite, who left her second husband to marry Edward, Prince of Wales. Edward was forced to abdicate his throne in order to marry her.

Both Meghan and Wallis were 34-years-old when they met their royal husbands and the two are also American divorcees.

On top of this, Ms Pasternak believes the Duchess could soon face similar problems with "courtiers" (royal advisors) as Wallis once did, if she doesn't make a change.

She said: "I would like to offer a note of caution to Meghan.

"I think she's heading for a tricky situation because I actually think very little has changed in the last eight years in terms of the power of courtiers.

"What I've discovered in my research for my book on Wallis Simpson and Princess Diana is that the one goal of the monarchy, the ultimate goal, is survival and for that the spotlight has to be on the monarch or the heir apparent."

The writer went on to criticise Meghan's lavish New York baby shower as "very poor taste", saying that the 37-year-old cannot continue living "like an A-list Hollywood star".

She added: "Meghan seems to want to bring her own style to the monarchy and I don't think it's appropriate and I don't think it's going to work long-term.

"She doesn't understand that she cannot be this international star on a global stage - that is the monarch - the Queen, then Charles, then William and Kate.

"They have to be the stars, that's what ensures the continuity of the monarchy."

Ms Pasternak also appeared to have very little faith in the future of Meghan's marriage to Prince Harry .

She claimed it was going to become "increasingly difficult" for the pair of them.

"Nobody wants to cast ill on a new marriage with a young baby, but I think it's going to become increasingly difficult," she said.
