Meghan Markle has an 'unofficial mentor' and 'ally' within the Royal family

After initially winning hearts, it's fair to say the Duchess of Sussex's transition into royal and public life has been a bit bumpy.

Much is made of the "advice" she's been given (or not) from her team but, interestingly, her "mentor" and closest bond may be with someone within the Royal family itself.

While the world is desperate for Meghan and Kate to either be the best of friends or engage in daily catfights, Meghan's easiest relationship is thought to be with a much more low-key family member.

Royal Biographer Katie Nicholl revealed in Grazia that the Queen has "earmarked" Sophie Wessex as a royal mentor for Meghan.

The two -in-laws spent time together at Royal Ascot last year and are believed to get along well.

It's perhaps not surprising given the similarities. Before marrying Prince Edward, Sophie had a very successful career in PR which she had to give up. Meghan, as we all know, was a successful actor in her own right.

But it's also thought to be the Wessex's "quiet lifestyle" which appeals to Meghan.

Sophie and Edward live at Bagshot Park in Windsor with their children – James, Viscount Severn, 11, and Lady Louise Windsor, 15, who are both schooled nearby.

A source told Grazia: "The Queen likes the idea of Sophie being an unofficial mentor to Meghan.

"Sophie is often at Windsor taking the kids riding on the Queen's horses and playing at the castle. It’'s a quiet lifestyle, very much the kind Harry and Meghan want for their little one."

Everybody needs an ally within their in-laws, and we're glad Meghan has someone she can relate to.
