Meghan Markle ditched a dress in favour of a tailored suit at the Endeavour Fund Awards with Prince Harry

Since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their engagement in November last year, the young couple have broken more than a few royal 'rules'.

The 36-year-old actress broke with tradition in December, for instance, by attending Christmas with the royal family - an honour usually reserved for royal spouses. The couple are also not shy about showing public displays of affection and have held hands on several engagements over the past few months.

Meghan has also departed from tradition with her style choices.

At the announcement of her engagement, she sported bare legs, ignoring the pantyhose policy that has unofficially reigned in the Royal family for centuries.

She later majorly broke one of the Queen's style rules when she wore a see-through sheer Ralph & Russo gown for her officially portrait photos with Prince Harry.

And last night Meghan tested the royal style boundaries once again, attending her first evening engagement with Prince Harry wearing not a dress but a sleek black suit.

The couple attende the Endeavour Fund Awards, a ceremony celebrating servicemen and women. And for the occasion, Meghan ditched a customary evening dress in favour of a more modern, androgynous look.

The 36-year-old chose Alexander McQueen's wool blazer and matching straight-leg trouser, pairing the ensemble with an elegant pussy-bow body by Tuxe Bodywear, Manolo Blahnik heels and a Prada clutch bag.

She accessorised with subtle gold earrings and a ring made by one of her favourite brands, Birks - a Canadian jewellers she has continually worn since her engagement.

As fate would have it, Meghan's soon to be sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge also wore Alexander McQueen on Thursday night, choosing a custom maternity gown for a royal dinner in Oslo.
