Meghan Markle cried as she watched Princess Diana's funeral on TV and wanted to be like her

When Princess Diana's coffin travelled along the streets of London, millions of people around the world cried for the heartbreaking loss.

Brits lined the street to say goodbye to the People's Princess while others watched the service on TV as Princes William and Harry walked behind the carriage.

Among them was her future daughter-in-law Meghan Markle, who was reportedly "devastated" by the death.

In his book Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, Diana's former biographer Andrew Morton claimed that the now Duchess of Sussex found one moment in particular extremely difficult.

He said "tears coursed down their cheeks" at the heartbreaking moment when cameras zoomed in a envelope with 'Mummy' written on it, which was placed next to the coffin.

It was written by her future fiance Prince Harry, who was 12 at the time.

After Diana's death Meghan and her friends used to watch old videos of Prince Charles and Diana's wedding day, and she quickly became fascinated by the princess.

Meghan was inspired by Diana and had a copy of Morton's biography on her bookshelf.

Morton's book on Meghan also says: "As friend Ninaki Priddy observed: 'She was always fascinated by the royal family. She wanted to be Diana 2.0."

Meghan and her friends were inspired to start helping other people, and started collecting toys and clothes for poor children in their area.

The Duchess has been compared to Diana a number of times since joining the family, especially when it comes to her charity work.

While other members of the Royal Family take a formal approach to meeting well-wishers, Meghan is always to bend down and give some of her younger fans hugs and high fives.

She's also proving to be a really hands on mum to baby Archie, an approach Diana took with both Harry and his big brother William.
