Meghan Markle has been slammed by a jam expert who claims her popular “As Ever” brand apricot jam is a “real disappointment.”
Meghan’s apricot spread quickly sold out online as people rushed to get their hands on the $9.00 spread. But according to America’s queen of jam, Donna Collins, a “spread” is nothing more than a failed jam. Well, Meghan has admitted she’s been “spread to thin” lately. Okay, bad joke, but Collins is serious and she knows her jam. She is the CEO and owner of the Jelly Queens jam company she’s also a champion jam-maker and she’s got more than a few things to say about Meghan’s sub-par skills.
‘No excuse’ for bad jam
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Collins explained that the Duchess of Sussex’s spread was nothing more than a failed attempt at making jam.
“It’s a real disappointment that Meghan is selling a fruit spread, which is what you make when your jam fails. In the jam industry a spread is what we call something that didn’t work.”
Collins went on to further deride Meghan’s supposed attempt at making jam as she claimed, “It can have the best ingredients, but if I had a jam that was too runny, I’d slap a label on it and call it a spread. There’s no excuse for this. It should be perfect.” Now is that what Meghan has done here? Or is Collins merely projecting based on what she would personally do?
Well Collins believes that the ingredients used by the Duchess suggest she was originally trying to make a jam. The queen of jam asks, “why is she using pectin, which is a gelling agent, unless it’s because her spread was too runny? Most spreads don’t use pectin.”
Well when you put it that way it does sound like Meghan’s latest product is a failed attempt at making jam. Of course, we’re not jam experts here so we’ll just have to take her word for it.
Meghan Markle doesn’t know what she’s doing
Collins insists that the Duchess simply doesn’t know what she’s doing. When Meghan launched her “As Ever” brand back in April of this year she sold a raspberry spread which many critics claimed was totally unsuitable for spreading on bread or toast. But the “As Ever” brand has survived all sorts of attacks from critics. Is this just another case of people perhaps being a little too harsh on Meghan?
Well Collins thinks not, despite the evidence suggesting that Meghan is making rather small batches, Collins believes that the Duchess is outsourcing her jam-making to somebody else. However, this hasn’t really helped, “I don’t know who’s making her spread, but we all know it’s not Meghan. It sounds like they really don’t know what they are doing.”
Those are some rather harsh words from the “Queen of Jam,” but should Meghan really be all that concerned? After all, her stock has pretty much all sold out within minutes of being available for purchase so obviously some people must be like her jam.
