Meghan Markle buys charity workers coffee to keep them going in 'classy' move

Meghan Markle donated $25 (£18) to each worker at a US charity so they could buy cups of coffee to "keep them going" during their fight for paid family leave.

Paid Leave US communications director, Neil Sroka, shared news of Meghan Markle's "classy" gift on Twitter.

He said: “The Duchess of Sussex (aka Meghan Markle ) bought everyone at Paid Leave US a few cups of coffee while we're working overtime to save paid leave.

"Unbelievably classy... and necessary. Truly honoured to know she has our backs in the fight to win paid leave for all."

He accompanied the tweet with an image of the Starbucks gift card and note sent by Archewell - Prince Harry and Meghan's charitable foundation.

The note read: “Hi there. Just a little something to keep you going. Thank you for all that you do. From: Archewell."

Sroka later tweeted to clarify that Meghan donated $25 to each of the 21 employees following some negative coverage suggesting she sent $25 for the entire company.

He wrote: “This tweet has received a stunning amount of coverage, so I’ll clarify: the Duchess/Archewell gave EACH of our staffers $25 for coffee.

“Maybe that doesn’t mean much to some, but for our team fighting to save paid leave it was a delightful surprise. Thank you Meghan Markle.”

After the clarification, several people expressed their support for the Duchess' small but powerful treat.

One wrote: “Your tweet was clear and yes Meghan is unbelievably classy.”

A second said: “Thanks for clarifying but it was crystal clear. A kind gesture from the Duchess of Sussex – THANKS for your hard work to ensure everyone in the USA gets paid parental leave.”

A third added: “We understood. This is the Meghan we have always known, she is thoughtful and supportive. This gesture is a consistent example of exactly who she is.”

Meghan sent the gift just a week after backing the cause by penning an open letter to US Congress on the topic.
