Meghan Markle and Prince Harry 'unlikely' to name daughter Diana in bid to 'shield' kids

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are "unlikely" to name their unborn daughter Diana.

The former royals revealed they are expecting a baby girl during their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

And while many might think the name Diana would be a loving nod to Harry's late mothe, it's been reported that Meghan and Harry fear it would make the child a target for attention, a source told PageSix.

It's likely that the pair may use the name Diana as a middle name for their child, however Prince William and Kate Middleton's five-year old daughter Charlotte already possesses that middle name.

"They are highly unlikely to call their daughter Diana," a source told the publication. "Their biggest concern is that it would make her a bigger target for the media, and considerably increase public interest in the child’s life.

"Whatever anybody thinks, Harry and Meghan do value their privacy and want to shield their children from the intense media pressure they have endured."

It's also reported that the pair "fear" the name would bring too much "pressure" on their children - with travel and schools being part of the worry.

Fans speculated the pair's daughter will be called Diana in a touching nod to the late Princess Diana (Getty Images)

The insider added: “They might consider Diana as a middle name, but Princess Charlotte already has Diana as a middle name, and Harry and Meghan have not enjoyed the feeling they have been compared to — and pitted against — William and Kate in the media and by the palace.”

The Mirror has contacted Meghan's reps for comment.

Meghan and Harry exclaimed "it's a girl" as they shared the exciting news with Oprah.

The programme aired in the US in the early hours of Monday morning and is shown on ITV at 9pm.

Insiders say The Queen will not watch the programme but will get a detailed briefing from her staff at breakfast.

Filmed at one of their friends' homes not far from their Californian mansion, the two-hour programme was filmed before they were stripped of their royal patronages.
