Meghan Markle and Prince Harry tell the Queen 'they will never return as working royals'

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have told the Queen they will never return to life as working royals.

As the Mirror reports, with this, comes the stripping of royal titles, including Prince Harry's honorary military titles.

According to Buckingham Palace, the Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of The Royal Family, it is not possible for Prince Harry and his wife to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service.

Buckingham Palace confirmed today: "The honorary military appointments and Royal patronages held by The Duke and Duchess will therefore be returned to Her Majesty, before being redistributed among working members of The Royal Family.

"While all are saddened by their decision, The Duke and Duchess remain much-loved members of the family."

A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said: "As evidenced by their work over the past year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain committed to their duty and service to the UK and around the world, and have offered their continued support to the organisations they have represented regardless of official role.

"We can all live a life of service. Service is universal."

Earlier in the week, Meghan and Prince Harry revealed they were expecting a younger sibling for their son, Archie.

The Mirror revealed this week how the monarch had ordered emergency meetings with royal aides, to draw up fresh plans over who will take over honorary royal roles she handed to her grandson and his wife, as a show of support to the couple.

Buckingham Palace was forced to bring forward a series of announcements before the March 31, the deadline set last year for a 12 month review of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to quit The Firm.

A royal source said: "There has been much consideration for some time on these matters and they will be settled before March 31."
