Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Wirral trip revealed daughter's name years before she was born

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their second child on Friday, June 4 and revealed her name as Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

But the couple may have let slip their idea for their new daughter's name years before she was born during a trip to Wirral.

In April 2019, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Birkenhead after being invited by the then MP Frank Field who asked them to meet with local projects and organisations that support and empower groups within the community.

At the time, Meghan was pregnant with their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, and there was a flurry of questions and chats with members of the public about their baby and what name they had picked.

While meeting the public, Harry expressed an interest in the name Lily, even asking one Wirral mum how she spelled her daughter's name, Hello! reports.

And another mum later told reporters: "I asked her whether she would call her baby Amy if she has a girl and she said, 'That's a really pretty name, I like it. We'll have to think about it'."

Meghan gave birth to Lili, the younger sister of two-year-old son Archie, on Friday, June 4 at 11.40am at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara and she weighed 7lbs 11oz.

A statement from the couple's press secretary said: "It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world.

"Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet.

"Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honour her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.

"The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family."

When Meghan and Harry visited Birkenhead two years ago Meghan didn't take off her bright red Sentaler coat, even indoors.

This was due to tradition, it is considered that for a woman in her position, it would be 'unladylike' to remove clothing in public - no matter what the occasion or piece of clothing.

According to Glamour Magazine, leading female members of the royal family are expected to adhere to the strict code of conduct set out by royal protocol.

And the act of removing the outermost layer of clothing is frowned upon by the crown.
