Meghan Markle and Prince Harry hike in LA during coronavirus lockdown

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been pictured out hiking in searing heat in a rare public outing in Los Angeles during the city's lockdown.

The outgoing royals sported colour-coordinated blue bandannas over their faces to protect against coronavirus as they walked two dogs in the city they now call home.

The couple had settled in Canada in a £11million Vancouver Island bolthole after their split from the royal family.

But they relocated to California as the coronavirus outbreak began to spread around the world to Meghan's hometown, nearer her mother Doria Ragland.

Meghan can be seen carrying a bottle of hand sanitiser as she and Harry walked with beagle, Guy, and black labrador, Oz, and took a hike up a steep, tree-line path.

Both wore face coverings in line with new Californian regulations as the US battles the pandemic during the outing on Thursday.

At one point the beagle appeared to become so overwhelmed in the sunshine city's heat, Meghan had to pick up the pup and carry it.

The couple left Archie at home as they took an outing at a hilly local path.

Harry, 35, sported a baseball cap, sunglasses, a t-shirt and Meghan, 38, was dressed casually in a tee, white trousers and trainers, carrying her iPhone with a gold case and also wearing shades and a cap.

They both used blue bandannas to comply with new California regulations on face coverings to combat the spread of coronavirus.

A source told The Sun : “Harry and Meghan seemed in very good spirits and the dogs were clearly over the moon to be out and about.

“They were hiking for over an hour and when they got back to the car the dogs looked exhausted.

“Meghan even had to carry the beagle back because he was so worn out from the heat. There was one security guard with them during the hike."

The pair packed their dogs into the boot of a silver Kia car before heading home.

The couple's outing came just hours after Meghan and Harry delivered free meals in West Hollywood for charity Project Angel Food.

The charity helps critically ill people who will be at serious risk if they are infected with Covid-19 as is close to Meghan's heart, as her mother supported it for years.

One of the charity's recipients, Daniel Tyrell, 53, told of coming down from his apartment to pick up his food parcel at the main entrance.

Daniel, who has HIV, said he did no recognise his visitors at first.

“My phone rang, and a lady said, ‘Hi, this is Meghan from Project Angel Food.”

“I said, ‘Oh, do you want to meet me downstairs?’ - I didn’t realise it was THE Meghan at this point.’

Daniel said he spotted two black-out SUVs on the road outside and realised this was no ordinary visitor.

“I knew they was something going on.”

As he approached the front door, Daniel said he spotted a familiar face.

“I recognised Harry first because I saw his red hair, but he didn’t say anything,” said Daniel.

“Then I looked at Meghan and put it all together.

“They both said here’s the food, hope you’re well.

“I said, ‘Thank you’ and they handed the food over, then I did a double-take.

“I didn’t say to them ‘Hey you’re the Royals’ or anything.

“I think they’re wonderful, wonderful people and I am glad they are here in LA doing this.”
