Meghan Markle and Prince Harry having baby girl in the summer

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry delighted fans with a gender reveal during their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey - telling the world they're having a baby girl.

Sitting side by side after making a number of shocking claims about the royal family, they also revealed their new arrival is due in the summer.

Baby Sussex will be a little sister for Archie, who turns two in May.

At the beginning of the interview Oprah congratulated Meghan on her baby news and commented on the size of her growing bump.

She then asked if they knew the gender, but Meghan said she would wait until the later part of the chat when Harry joined her to share the news.

Asked what it was like seeing the scan, Harry said: "Amazing".

He said: "[I'm] just grateful to have any child. Any, one or two, would have been amazing but to have a boy and then a girl what more can you ask for?

"Now we've got our family, we got the four of us and our two dogs."

Following the interview, the couple shared a beautiful new photo of their family which shows Meghan's bump.

Photographer Misan Harriman, who also took the couples pregnancy announcement photo, shared the snap this evening to mark International Women's Day.

He wrote: "What wonderful news to celebrate on International Women’s Day! Congratulations my friends, and welcome to the Girl Dad club H."

The couple told the world they were expecting by sharing a black and white photo through Misan.

It came a few months after Meghan wrote a moving account of the miscarriage she suffered last summer.

The gender reveal was a lovely moment in an otherwise dramatic interview with TV legend Oprah Winfrey, which has been watched by millions of people.

Orpah first contacted Meghan about the potential interview in early in 2018, before she married Harry.

However the Duchess had to turn the request down, saying it wasn't the right time.

Recalling their conversation in the interview, Meghan says they had to have someone from the Palace's communication team with them for the decision.

When Oprah asks why they've agreed to the chat now, the former royal replies: “Well, so many things that we’re on the other side of a lot of... a lot of life experience that has happened.

“And also that we have the ability to make our own choices in a way that I couldn’t have said ‘yes’ to you then. That wasn’t my choice to make.

“So, as an adult who lived a really independent life to then go into this construct that is... different than I think what people imagine it to be, it’s really liberating to be able to have the right and the privilege in some ways to be able to say ‘yes’.”

Oprah asks her: “To say it for yourself?” to which Meghan replies: “I’m ready to talk. To say it for yourself.”

The chat show host then pointedly says: “And not to have to consult with anybody at this point. Yes?”

Meghan says: “Yeah. To be able to just make a choice on your own. And to be able to speak for yourself.”

The interview was recorded a few weeks ago at Meghan and Harry's friend's house, believed to be near their new mansion.

It took place before the Queen announced Megxit would be permanent and took away the couple's royal patronages. There are reports the programme had to be re-edited following the decision, which insiders say has upset the couple.
