Meghan Markle and Prince Harry 'agree to tell-all interview with Gayle King'

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have reportedly agreed to a tell-all interview in the US with CBS host and close pal Gayle King.

Reports emerged that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will sit down CBS News' chief anchor to discuss their shock decision to step down from royal duties, according to Page Six .

The couple have already opened up about their lives while filming Harry & Meghan: An African Journey.

It was during this interview that Meghan suggested the couple were 'surviving' rather than 'thriving', something that is thought to have played into their shock announcement earlier this week.

In an unprecedented move, Harry and Meghan revealed their plans to take on a pared down and more 'progressive' role in the Royal family , which will see them become financially independent and able to earn an income.

The Queen was said to be deeply disappointed by the couple's decision to rush their statement out to the public.

It's thought that an interview with Ms King could be a way for the Sussexes to discuss their plans going forward.

Gayle King has previously suggested that she became friends with the Duchess of Sussex in the months leading up to the birth of her son, Archie Harrison.

Last year, Meghan's close friends, including make-up artist Daniel Martin, opened up to Ms King during a CBS News special about her relationship with Prince Harry .

In the interview, Daniel said it was "frustrating" to hear stories about Meghan that carried no truth.

He added: "It's not the same person. In the years I've known her, the years I've worked with her, she's never had a diva fit. Never."

Gayle also weighed in on the discussion, referring specifically to Meghan's baby shower, which received criticism for being too extravagant.

Gayle said: Daniel [Martin] and friends, including Serena Williams, invited 15 people... and I was one of them.

"Over the last few months, Meghan and I have become friends. We all gathered at The Mark Hotel in New York City. As part of the festivities, we created floral arrangements."

Since the Duke and Duchess made their shock announcement, Meghan has fled to Canada to rejoin her son, Archie, eight months.

Meanwhile, Harry is said to be locked in talks with the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William, as staff at Buckingham Palace work out how to coordinate the new roles Harry and Meghan want to take on.

It is understood that during a series of heartfelt discussions over the past month Harry told his father he had been unhappy for some time and needed a new direction for his family.

The Queen is thought to have been at the forefront in the battle to “move heaven and Earth” to keep Harry and Meghan, 38, in the inner circle.

A palace insider said: “When all around her appears to be crumbling, she is of course the ever constant presence that will steady the ship –whatever it takes.”
